NOTE: This job copy of this permit shall be kept on the job site to make the required entries thereon. The permit will expire if work is abandonded or does not pass an inspection for more than 180 days from issuance or last passed inspection. Additional fees will be collected to renew expired permits. This is a Building Permit when properly filled out, signed and validated, and is not transferable. Construction noise is subject to SCMC Section 9.36.010 including no construction noise prior to 8:00 AM.
Roofing Information
All work must comply with current and applicable state and local codes.
Solar Panels: When solar panels are present on a roof a licensed electrician must concurrently apply for a separate electrical permit for the reinstallation of solar equipment for reroofing projects.
Underlayment: Underlayment shall comply with CRC R905.1.1 and manufacturer’s specifications which shall be kept on site for inspector verification.
Cricket or Saddle (per CRC R903.2.2): Cricket or saddle shall be installed on the ridge side of any chimney or penetration more than 30 inches wide as measured perpendicular to the slope.
Roof Slope Requirements:
Wood Shake & Shingle Roofs (per CRC R905.7.2 & R905.8.2): Less than 3:12 – Wood shake & wood shingles may not be used.
Asphalt Roofs (per CRC R905.2.2): Less than 2:12 – Asphalt shingles may not be used. Greater than or equal to 2:12 – Asphalt shingles may be used. 2:12 – 4:12 – Asphalt shingles may be used and require double underlayment.
Built-Up Roofs (per CRC R905.9.1): Greater than or equal to 1/4:12 Built-up roofs may be used. Greater than or equal to 1/8:12 Coal-tar built-up roofs may be used.
Spark Arrester (per CRC R1003.9.2): All chimneys attached to any appliance or fireplace that burns solid fuel shall be equipped with an approved spark arrester.
Engineering Calculations: If new plus existing roof weighs more than 6 psf, engineering calculations or verification of compliance with the UBC span tables is required.
Fire Rating (per Municipal Code 18.04): All wood shake and shingle roofs installed in the State of California must be approved by the State Fire Marshal. In the City of Santa Cruz, all roofs must be at least Class B rated.
Contractor’s License & Workman’s Compensation: Through this ePermit process you have affirmed under penalty of perjury that you are licensed under provisions of Chapter 9 (commencing with Section 7000) of Division 3 of the business and Professions Code, and your license is in full force and effect. Additionally you have attested that you have and will maintain workman’s compensation insurance, as required by Section 3700 of the Labor Code, for the performance of the work for which the permit is issued.
